Paiute Trail - Day 3

Sunrise in Circleville

Standard Paiute Trail sign

We headed out on a side trail to avoid the rocky part of Trail 01 outside of Circleville. Not too far out of Circleville my rearview mirror dropped off into my hand. Fortunately the mirror didn't break and it was the only thing to fall off my ATV besides me.

We stopped at Manning Meadow Reservoir for a short break. The trail is maintained very well and there are several campsites and restroom facilities along the way.

We headed back out on the trail which was on a good mountain road. While we were riding through the mountain meadows it began to sprinkle so we stopped and put on our Marmot rain gear. About a mile down the trail from where we stopped I saw a herd of elk next to the road. The entire herd ran off into the trees before I could stop to grab my camera.

The trail ride for today consisted of easy to intermediate rides except for one small patch of difficult trail just before Koosharem. After my spill yesterday I was a little nervous. Before we started on the difficult section we stopped and talked to a group of ATV riders who all indicated it was just steep and rocky. As long as we creeped down in low they said we wouldn't have any trouble. I creeped down in low AND 4-wheel drive.

We arrived in Koosharem and went straight to the Koosharem Cafe. The food was so good and the homemade scones melted in our mouths.

We then drove down a block to the Grass Valley Mercantile to gas up the ATV's and to check out the general store advertised as the Tri-City Mall. The store had a little bit of everything, from food to clothing to automotive parts. It was a miniature mall but with much more character and exceptional service.

We checked in at the Grass Valley Inn and walked across the street to the cafe for homemade apple pie (made with fresh apples) and coffee.

Downtown Koosharem

All of the towns on the trail are great little towns but Koosharem was our favorite.
